Flat piercing jewellery for the flat stretch of cartilage between the helix rim and the rook. The flat is the showcase spot of an ear stack: it has room for larger tops, so this is where clusters, fans and statement gems go.
Flat helix studs
A flat piercing takes a flat back stud, never a ring, because the area is too wide for a hoop to sit cleanly. Flat helix earrings here are labret bars with threaded or threadless tops, from a single bezel gem up to 8mm clusters and marquise fans. Double and triple flat piercings look best with tops that step down in size, or with a run of matching gems.
Earrings for flat piercings
Fresh flat piercings need an 8mm bar to allow for swelling; most settle to 6mm once healed. Tops over 5mm wide suit the flat better than any other ear placement because there is space around them.

Flat piercings are 1.2mm (16g) as standard. Jewellery is implant grade ASTM F-136 titanium or solid 14k gold.
