Lip piercing jewellery for labret, medusa, monroe, philtrum, vertical labret and snake bite placements. All of them take either a flat back labret stud or a ring, so the choice comes down to length, gauge and top.
Labret studs
A labret stud has a flat disc that sits inside the mouth against the gum and a decorative top on the outside. Flat backs matter more here than anywhere else, because a ball sitting inside the mouth wears at tooth enamel over time.
Rings and hoops
Hinged segment rings and seamless rings suit a lower lip or snake bite piercing once healed. Internal diameters of 8mm to 10mm sit closest to the lip.
Sizing
Lip piercings are usually 1.2mm (16g), with 1.6mm (14g) also common. Fresh piercings are fitted long to allow for swelling, so expect to downsize to 6mm or 8mm once settled.
