Hidden helix jewellery for the piercing that tucks inside the fold at the top of the ear, where the helix curls over. It is placed so the top of the jewellery sits in the crease and is only seen when you look for it, so everything here is small, short and low profile.
Hidden helix studs
A flat back stud is the usual choice. A 6mm bar with a 2mm to 3mm ball, gem or disc sits inside the fold without pressing on the cartilage either side. Threadless tops make it easy to change the look without taking the bar out of a piercing that is awkward to reach.
Hidden helix rings
Once healed, a 6mm hinged ring or seamless ring follows the curve of the fold and peeks out from underneath. Keep the diameter small: anything larger than 7mm tends to stand off the ear rather than sit in the crease.
Sizing and materials
Hidden helix jewellery is sized for the crease: 1.2mm (16g), or 1mm (18g) with some piercers, on a 6mm post with a top no bigger than 3mm. Anything longer stands proud of the fold and spoils the effect. Hidden helix earrings are implant grade ASTM F-136 titanium in polished, gold PVD and black PVD, with opal and gemstone tops set in titanium and solid gold studs for a gold hidden helix that will never wear through. Silver-coloured hidden helix jewellery means polished titanium rather than sterling silver, which is too soft for a piercing that sits under pressure.
