Snug piercing jewellery for the inner ridge of cartilage that runs along the ear, just inside the helix rim. The snug (sometimes called the anti-helix) is a horizontal piercing through a shallow ridge, so it takes a specific shape of jewellery: a small curved barbell.

Snug barbells

A snug barbell is a curved bar, usually 6mm to 8mm long, with both ends showing on the surface of the ear. Ball ends are the classic choice; gem, opal and disc ends dress it up. Because both ends are visible, matching ends look neatest.

Snug piercing hoops

Some healed snug piercings suit a small ring or hinged clicker of 6mm to 8mm, depending on the depth of the ridge. A curved barbell is the safer starting point and the only option while the piercing heals.

Sizing and materials

Snug piercings are 1.2mm (16g) as standard. Jewellery is implant grade ASTM F-136 titanium or solid 14k gold. Snug piercings take longer to heal than most ear placements, so stick with the bar your piercer fitted until it is fully settled.
